FAQs Before You Enroll

Do I need to be employed to qualify? Yes — always select “Employed” on the enrollment form, even if you are: retired, receiving social security, on disability or receiving other retirement income. This ensures your application is processed correctly under the group policy.
Are there medical questions or exams? No. This is a guaranteed issue policy. There are: No medical exams, No health questions, No waiting period for coverage to begin
Is there an age requirement? Yes. For Whole Life with Long-Term Care: Up to age 70: no health questions, no medical exam.
Age 71 and older: limited health questions will be required
When does my coverage start? Coverage begins on the first of the month following enrollment. For example, if you enroll anytime in October, your coverage becomes active on November 1st.
Do I need to buy all three policies? No. You can choose the policy (or combination of policies) that works best for you. You may enroll in: Whole Life with Long-Term Care, Cancer Policy, Critical Illness Policy …or any mix of the above.
Who receives the benefit money? For all three policies, benefits are paid directly to you, not to hospitals or institutions. With Whole Life + Long-Term Care, you can draw down from the policy while alive, and those funds are deposited directly to you. With the Critical Illness Policy, lump sum payouts (up to $20,000) go straight to you. With the Cancer Policy, the $10,000 initial diagnosis benefit — and any additional payouts — are also paid directly to you. This ensures you and your family decide how best to use the funds.
Do I need to add a beneficiary? Yes. When completing enrollment, you must designate your beneficiary(ies) for the Whole Life with Long-Term Care policy. This ensures your loved ones receive benefits immediately if the unexpected occurs. Keep this information updated if your family situation changes.
Can I enroll my family? Yes. Under the Critical Illness Policy, you may add your: Spouse and Children under the age of 18
This extends protection beyond yourself and ensures your household has additional security.
Can I refer these policies to others? Yes. You are welcome to share this opportunity with friends, family, or colleagues. Anyone can enroll, whether or not they are currently connected to AWN. However, please note that insurance regulations do not allow us to provide referral bonuses or financial incentives for sharing. The greatest reward is knowing you’ve helped another Black woman or family protect their legacy.
Do I have to be a member of AWN to enroll? No. Enrollment in these group insurance policies is open to all. Membership in AWN is encouraged, as it unlocks additional community benefits and resources, but it is not required in order to secure coverage.
Is there a waiting period for death benefits? No. Unlike many policies, AWN’s Whole Life with Long-Term Care has no two-year waiting period for death benefit payouts. Your family is protected immediately.
